The WFMT was begun by Robert Kearney in 2002 but is now maintained by Eileen
Sealavendre who has been a list member since November 11, 2003.
For the Weekly Fractal Modification
Theme (WFMT), an image will be sent to the group via the mailing
list.
Members can then improve and/or show alternate visions of the
fractal image, and post the results back to the list.
The FEUser list members have unique skills, preferences,
and
visions. Some artists are drawn to soft fractals, other hard.
Some prefer light colors, other dark. Some artists do a lot of post-processing
work, others none. For this exercise we will concentrate on both
post-processing techniques as well as spot file manipulation using the same
image/spot file. If you want to only modify the spot file or post-process that
is fine, if you wish to participate in both exercises that is also fine. You
do not have to participate at all if you do not wish to. The fun part about
this is that we all get to see the results of the diverse tastes and techniques
of our fellow FE fractalists. Members have tricks and skills which, often
unthinkingly,
are used over and over. The purpose of the WFMT is to
highlight different visions and expose
techniques.
The
fractals to be modified will be collected from list members and
provided back to the group
anonymously.
None of the list
members other than the manager of WFMT will know who provided the
fractal. So each week someone will receive feedback
(anonymously) on one of his or her fractals.
The rules are more involved than monthly
themes and are listed
directly below. Guidelines on how to submit a fractal to be
used as the original work as well as a Q and A for questions that
have popped up can be found
here.
|
Type 1: Rules for WFMT Spot file Images
|
|
1.
|
Once modified, all images and spot files will be sent
through the list
using the subject line of the original post.
|
|
2.
|
Entries should look similar enough to the original fractal
that anyone could look at it and say to themselves "this image came from this
spot file".
|
|
3.
|
For this
type of submission you do not manipulate the image with an
outside program. Therefore you should send in the spot
file along with your finished image so people can look at the
changes you made.
|
|
4.
|
All finished fractal images sent in should follow the
guidelines set on the FEUsers FAQ page in regards to file size, image size, and
image type...and yes they count against your five-per-day limit.
|
|
5.
|
Unlike
monthly theme images, weekly theme images will be just added
to the main galleries.
|
|
6.
|
No, there are no prizes for doing this, nor any winners.
This is mainly to help other members learn how
to post-process their fractals and make their images stand
out and be noticed.
:-)
|
|
7.
|
There is no set deadline for these themes, however, it is
expected that once a new
WFMT image/spot is sent through to the list that everyone
will concentrate on the new image.
|
|
Type 1: Rules for WFMT Post-Processed Images
|
|
1.
|
Once edited, all images will be sent through the list
using the subject line of the original post.
|
|
2.
|
Entries should include an explanation of which
program was used to edit the image along with any plug-ins/actions used. Some
parameters of the plug-ins/actions are encouraged to be sent in as well, but
this is not mandatory. Remember, though, that any extra information will help
other members learn more about the post-processing process.
The goal is to provide enough information so that someone else
can follow your recipe and come out with very similar
results.
If you know, it is also helpful to state
why you made specific choices.
|
|
3.
|
For this type of submission you only manipulate the image.
Therefore, no spot file is needed.
